unbecoming

poetry

be thou not a machination
of thy mind!
but fledgling
wrenched from tree
who would do all
to return

and for that
thou hast forged a million baubles
and hoisted a million weight of stone
up the tree
to find thou art now
too big for the nest

therefore shalt thou drown
in the fermented fruit
that falleth from its branches
for to coddle thy simple heart

i beseech thee!
grow tall
like the very tree itself whence thou camest

and grow out many branches
thyself
until thou hearest tiny chirps
on a dew-drenched morn

whilst the sun crawleth atop the earth
and warmeth the blood flowing through thy
now unyielding heart
that thou might smile
truly
for something other than thyself
for the first time in all thy days
