Someday Some Other Place

poetry

I will worship at the altar
of these laser beam dreams
cast in mercury
and pinned, by straw, in place

I will tie the filament
in a series of small loops
and hook them to my soft heart
shivering as they slip each beat

and when the red sun rises
every morning that I am away
I will envy every power line
that runs forever, wherever it may please
