for you and me
but right now
a kid like you and me (once were)
cries out for parent’s whom’ll
never hold him again
and fathers dig through
piles of dirt
till fingernails fail
and more
because children aren’t
something you give
up on.
no matter
how many bodies
are dumped via bulldozer
into trucks to be removed
after the already departed
souls.
Usually I let my opinions slip by, but I’m sipping coffee and feel like having a rant this morning. Here goes:
When a person has ability to offer help, they should. Because anybody can at least pray, they should. Something to keep in mind, though, is that at any given second, mind-boggling moments of sadness and distress are happening. If we reflect on 9/11, we see that victims were made millionaires, which likely caused another sort of ruin in their lives. (like the lotto does). Meanwhile, others in need were ignored. A child’s mother was murdered, and no one had any means left to help him with the aftermath. Tell him we had ‘bigger’ things to focus on (like making victims millionaires). Or perhaps a family’s house burnt down and they need help with basic needs and a place to sleep.
Atrocious activities and human depravity of epic stupefaction have occurred in Haiti for decades before the quake. Honestly, it needed rebuilding before the quake. There wasn’t enough food, and children were starving. Did the masses pause to care before?
I hear Clinton and Bush Sr. have just signed on to help and raise $$$ for Haiti. Just like the Thai Tsunami. By the way, how are the Thai recovering? Do we care about that anymore? Nah, that’s old news. If there’s still help needed in Thailand, let someone else worry.
Massive help will be needed in Haiti, no doubt. An earthquake will deserve media attention, and after time, the attention will fade. But in our own backyard, things like this: http://jadedhaven.wordpress.com/2009/10/03/what-is-the-point-of-god/. We need to remind ourselves that heroes and donors are needed daily in this tragic and evil world. If your heart is eager and willing to help and to save, then do not wait for photographs for motivation. Do not put all your eggs in one basket.
it’s true.
it’s also difficult to process how much of this kind of hurt is happening everywhere… with or without natural disasters.
right now in our own backyard. its hard to know what burden to pick up and carry because we just cant carry it all.
